Langtang Valley Trek is a 9 day trek that explores the cultures, biodiversity and Himalayan beauty of the Langtang region. Situated 19 miles north of Kathmandu, the Langtang valley offers a captivating blend of natural wonders and cultural richness. The trekking trail, once a major trade route with Tibet, reflects the influence of the Tibetan lifestyle on the trekkers.
This region, often referred to as the "Valley of Glaciers," was first described by British mountaineer Bill Tilman as the most beautiful valley in the world. The Langtang Valley trek, conveniently located near Kathmandu, has become a favored destination for trekkers seeking incredible views within a limited timeframe.
The Journey to Langtang Valley offers breathtaking panoramas of Langtang Lirung (7,246 m), Gangchhenpo (6,388 m), Dokpu (5,930 m), Naya Kangri (5,846 m), and Yala Peak (5,500 m), with Naya Kang and Yala peaks being popular climbing destinations.
Along the route, the Tatopani village boasts a natural hot spring believed to have healing properties for various skin diseases. Kyanjin Gompa, a splendid Buddhist monastery at 3,740 m, and the renowned Yala Cheese Factory add cultural and culinary dimensions to the journey.
As the trek traverses the Langtang National Park, trekkers encounter diverse flora and fauna, including wild dogs, red pandas, pikas, black bears, Himalayan Tahr, ghoral, and common langurs. The rich forest encompasses Sal, Khotesalla, Louth Salla, Gobresalla, Kharsu, and Rhododendron varieties.
Commencing from Syabrubesi, accessible after a 7-hour jeep drive from Kathmandu, the trek follows the Langtang River, passing through Lama Hotel, Tatopani, Langtang Valley, and Kyanjin Gompa. The return journey retraces the path to Syabrubesi, culminating in a drive back to Kathmandu.

Route of 9 Day Trek to Langtang Valley
The route of the Langtang Valley Trek starts with your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. On the day of your arrival, you can explore Kathmandyu Valley and get ready for your trek.
The next day, we will drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. The next few days, you will trek through villages like Lama Hotel, Langtang Village, and Kyanjin Gompa.
You will trek to Kyanjin Gompa on day 5 of your journey; from there, the next day you will trek back to the Lama Hotel, retracting the route back to Kathmandu.
Throughout these 9 days, you will traverse through diverse landscapes, where each sight will give you breathtaking views of the Langtang region.
Kyanjin Gompa: The Major Highlight of the Journey
A major attraction of the Langtang Valley Trek, Kyanjin Gompa is at an elevation of around 3,870 meters (12,696 ft).
The name "Kyanjin Gompa" comes from the historic Buddhist monastery that is located here, demonstrating the area's strong spiritual ties. Trekkers can see customary Tibetan Buddhist rites and practices in this serene monastery.
It is a key stop for people interested in the cultural components of the walk since it is a site where the spiritual atmosphere of the Himalayas can be fully sensed. Kyanjin Gompa offers stunning views of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m / 23,773 ft) and other high peaks.
To acclimate and enjoy the surroundings, hikers frequently stay an additional day here. Hikes to Tserko Ri (4,984 m / 16,349 ft) and Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m / 15,655 ft) are popular side trips since they both provide breathtaking views over the surrounding mountains and valleys.
In addition, a well-known cheese factory was founded in 1955 in Kyanjin Gompa with support from Switzerland. Hikers can try and buy freshly made yak cheese and curd from the factory, offering a delicious experience in the middle of the rough terrain.
