This trek allows our classic Annapurna Circuit Trek around the Annapurna range, a fantastic Odyssey traveling through a great diversity of landscape and meeting with many ethnic groups. The Tilicho and Mesokanto La Trail diverge from the Annapurna Circuit at Manang Village. This is a challenging trek for moderately fit people seeking adventure. We will take you on a route to one of the world's highest Lakes and then over a remote pass that sees very few travelers each year.
From the trails, you will see up-close views of many magnificent peaks including Annapurna I (8091m), the worlds 10th highest mountains and first peak over 8000m to have ever been climbed, accomplished by a French team in 1950 A.D. Additional giants views include Dhaulagiri (8,167m), worlds 7th highest, Makalu (8163m), worlds 8th highest, sacred Machha Puchhre (6993), a sacred mountain off-limits to climbing.
The Tilicho and Meso Kanto La are along most of the Annapurna Circuit Trek which follows two major River valleys. The Marshyangdi River valley was a part of an ancient trade route linking culture long before trekkers ever arrived in this area. The Kali Gandaki is considered the deepest gorge in the world and is also part of an ancient trade route to Tibet. Both valleys have distinct features and culture that makes the trekking there unbelievable trekking of natural and cultural diversity.
The area as a lot more to be explored: large village of Manang with sacred monasteries and side- trips to Milarepa cave and Ice Lake. Then we leave the main route to continue the adventure to Tilicho Lake, a place thought to be favored by Shiva and mentioned long ago in the Holy Hindu text of the Ramayana.
The Lake is nestled under the peaks and fed by nearby Glaciers. Chances are that we may see the blue sheep which abound in this area. However, we have much fewer chances to see the snow leopard preying on it.
From the Lake, we ascend to the challenging Mesokanto La (5100m), a pass to the northeast that is the high point if the trek and links us to Jomsom. This pass is an alternate to the Thorung La on the main circuit and goes through a rarely visited, remote section of the Himalaya.
