After the 1911 revolution, administrative agencies were set up in Tibet by the Government of the Peoples Republic of China. It was declared as an independent in 1913. Amdo and Kham were in the marginalized political structure. The region is controlled by the People Republic of China as an autonomous region. The major leaders of Tibet are still exiled in foreign countries.

The tourism industry is flourishing in the recent years due to its strength in diverse natural heritages, cultural practices and pilgrimage destinations. Even the monsoon is the best visiting season because it is located in the Himalayan rain shadow area. The Tibetan economy is primarily based on agriculture. Tibetan Buddhism is the dominant religion and the other known as Bon. Muslim and Christians are in small numbers.
