Routes of Manaslu Base Camp Trek Itinerary

Your Manaslu Base Camp Trek begins on the second day of the trip. You head out of Kathmandu and drive towards Sotikhola. Surrounded by green hills and driving along the Trishuli river you arrive Dhading. From there you drive for about an hour or two and reach your destination.

After a peaceful night, you trek towards Maccha Khola the next day. Crossing dense forests and rivers you reach Labubesi then following the trail along the river arrive Maccha Khola.

Following the tough trails, you head towards Jagat the next day. Then from there, you head towards Deng. After that, you trek to Namrung then Samagaon. You acclimatize in Samagaon and visit ancient monasteries here.

After a wonderful time, you now head towards Samdo then trek to Dharamsala. The next you head towards Bimthang crossing Larkya La Pass. Then you trek down to Tilije and head to Tal from there.

Walking on the trail you reach Suange then drive back to Kathmandu from there. Spending a night in the capital city, you return to your home and end this Manaslu Base Camp Trek itinerary.

Best time to Visit Manaslu Base Camp Trek

Visiting Manaslu Base Camp Trek is possible throughout the year. You can visit this region at any time of the year. There are four seasons to choose from Spring, Autumn, Winter, and Monsoon.

Spring and Autumn are two peak seasons of the year. Trekkers consider these seasons the best time to visit Manaslu Base Camp Trek. The months of March to May and September to November fall during these seasons.

These are the months when the beauty of nature outshines in the Himalayas. The skies are clear, weather and temperature are also favorable, and walks are comfortable.

On the other hand, Winter and Monsoon are the off-season time of the year. These seasons are the least preferred time for trekking in these routes. The months of June to August and December to February fall during these seasons.

This is 16 days Manaslu Base Camp Trek Itinerary that takes on a whole lot of adventure in the mountains. We have mentioned the Manaslu Base Camp Trek itinerary in detail below:

Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu

Welcome to Kathmandu! On the first day of this trek to Manaslu, you will be arriving at the Tribhuvan International Airport. Before your arrival, one of our representatives will be waiting for you at the terminal.

Then picking you up, they will drop you off at your hotel and help you check-in to your rooms. You must be tired after the long journey, so you can rest in your rooms.

The rest of the day is free, so you can roam around as well. During the evening, you can visit local markets and see the lifestyle of the capital people. You can also visit Thamel if you are looking forward to some noisy afternoon. This place is the most happening one in the town.

You should sleep fast as your Manaslu Base Camp Trek begins the next day. So, give your body some rest.

Day 2: Drive to Sotikhola

Drive Duration: 8 to 9 hours

Drive Distance: 141 km

Maximum Altitude: 710 m above sea level

Today you will begin your Manaslu Base Camp trek by driving towards Sotikhola from Kathmandu. This day’s drive is quite long and tiring filled with awesome scenarios.

Heading out the capital, you will be surrounded by the lush green hill. Then following the Prithivi highway, you will drive alongside the Trishuli River. After driving for a few hours, you reach Dhading Besi.

Crossing various small settlements, you drive towards Arughat from. From here, you take the gravel road and continue on these routes till Sotikhola. This village is the starting point for Trekking in the Manaslu region.

Day 3: Trek to Maccha Khola

Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hours

Trek Distance: 14 km

Maximum Altitude: 900 m above sea level

Today, your trekking journey begins as you head towards Maccha Khola from Sotikhola. After having an early breakfast, you start your day’s journey by entering the sub-tropical forest.

This forest is home to various vegetation like sal, pines, rhododendron, etc. You will be walking along the Budhi Gandaki River making up and down these trails.

Then crossing a bridge you climb onto a ridge above the Budhi Gandaki river till you reach Khursane. From there, following a steep rocky trail, you walk past the waterfalls on the side of a cliff.

After that, you make a descend in the routes and pass ride paddies. Then again making an ascend, you arrive at Labubesi, a beautiful village of the gurung people. Again you make a climb in the trail that opens up to the river.

From there, you walk down to the shores and walk along with rounded stones. Before making a final climb over the side ridge. Then heading down towards the river, you cross a suspension bridge and arrive at Machha Kola.

Stay here for the night.

Day 4: Trek to Jagat

Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hours

Trek Distance: 22 km

Maximum Altitude: 1410 m above sea level

After having a healthy breakfast, you head out the village and trek towards Jagat this day. You begin the trek by following the gorge that continues up the river. Then following a narrow trail, you slowly walk up and down in the trails and cross Tharo Khola and reach Khorla Besi.

From there, you again make several ascends and descends in the trails and reach Tatopani. Then again making an ascend you cross a suspension bridge over the Budhi Gandaki.

Now you climb up the trails using the staircase and reach Dobhan. From here, you will be crossing another suspension bridge above the Yaru Khola. Then making a descendant till the river you will climb the stone staircase and reach Tharo Bharyang.

Keep out an eye for the Langur monkeys that roam in these areas. After crossing the Budhi Gandaki river and climbing over a ridge, you arrive at Jagat.

Day 5: Trek to Deng

Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hours

Trek Distance: 19.9 km

Maximum Altitude: 1804 m above sea level

Today, you will be heading towards Deng walking through various dense forests and landscapes. And crossing several small rivers and traditional villages. You begin your trek by making an ascend over a rocky ridge and reaching Salleri.

Then make a descent to Sirdibas from where the valley widens and leads you to Ghatte Khola River. Walking for hours, you now cross the long suspension bridge and enter Philim, the largest Gurung settlement of this region.

Now, taking the north trails you enter a remote, steep gorge and walk down the grassy slopes. Crossing the Budhi Gandaki, you walk on the west and east banks of the river.

Then passing a Bamboo forest you reach the Deng Khola. Then crossing it, you reach the village of Deng. This tiny village offers the mesmerizing view of various peaks and landscapes.

Day 6: Trek to Namrung

Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hours

Trek Distance: 19.5 km

Maximum Altitude: 2630 m above sea level

You start the day by having a healthy breakfast then heading towards Namrung. This day’s section is culturally very important and significant. You begin by crossing the Budhi Gandaki and making an ascend till the valley.

From there, you enter the lush green forest of alpine vegetation and pass several quaint villages. These villages are home to some of the ethnic groups of this region.

From this point, you can see some of the major peaks in the distance. Viewing these peaks, you reach Ghap and cross the Budhi Gandaki River. On this trail, you will see the beautiful Sringi Mountain.

Walking through narrow trails and crossing several dense forests, you reach Namrung. You stay here for the night.

Day 7: Trek to Samagaon

Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hours

Trek Distance: 17.7 km

Maximum Altitude: 3530 m above sea level

Having your breakfast, you can walk around the village and see the mesmerizing view of Ganesh Himal and Siring. Today, you head towards Samagaon from Namrung.

Making a gentle climb in the trails you pass the lush forest and reach Lihi. This is a beautiful village filled with several stupas and barley terraces. From here, the trail drops to the side of Simnang Himal.

Passing many small settlements like Sho, Lho, Shyala, you reach Sama Village. This day’s journey is full of exciting scenarios. You get to see Mount Manaslu, Peak 29, Himal Chuli, and large glaciers. You also get to explore the popular Ribung Gompa.

You stay in Samagaon for the night.

Day 8: Explore Pungyen Monastery

On the eight day of this trek, you have your acclimatization in Samagaon. Today, you will give your body some rest and help it adjust to the current environment. You can also acclimatize by hiking till Pungyen Monastery.

The routes of this hike are filled with several Mani walls, Chortens, monasteries, and sherpa communities. Reaching the monastery, you get the marvelous view of Mount Manaslu, Himal Chuli, and glaciers.

After exploring the beautiful monastery, you return back to Samagaon. You stay here for the night.

Day 9: Trek to Samdo

Trek Duration: 4 to 5 hours

Trek Distance: 16.4 km

Maximum Altitude: 3860 m above sea level

After resting in Samagaon, you again begin your journey and head toward Samdo. You begin by descending in the trails and crossing a bridge over the stream.

Then passing mani walls the valley widens giving you the view of several mountains. Walking in the trails, you get closer to the Tibetan border. From here, the trek is easier as you pass the forest of juniper and birch.

Then dropping down the trail, you cross the Budhi Gandaki river with the help of a wooden bridge. After that, making a steep climb you reach a stone archway. From there, continuing your walk, you reach Samdo and stay here for the night.

Day 10: Trek to Dharamsala/ Larkya B. C.

Trek Duration: 4 to 5 hours

Trek Distance: 11.7 km

Maximum Altitude: 4460 m above sea level

Today’s hike is quite short giving you enough time to relax during the afternoons. This day you will be heading towards Dharamsala from Samdo. After having a healthy breakfast, you begin your journey by passing a seasonal Tibetan market, Larke Bazaar.

Reaching this Bazaar, you make a descent in the trails till you arrive at Budhi Gandaki River. Then from there, crossing a wooden bridge you make a steep ascend in the trails.

Viewing beautiful Larkya Glaciers, you cross several small streams and reach Salka Khola. Crossing the khola, you gently make an uphill climb and reach Larke Phedi.

Larke Phedi is popularly known as Dharamsala. It is not a lodge but a kind of shelter made for travelers. Today you will have seen several traditional monasteries along the way.

As the trek is short, you can roam around and explore the area. Or you can rest in your rooms. You stay here for the night.

Day 11: Cross Larkya La and Trek to Bimthang

Total Trek Duration: 8 to 9 hours

Total Trekking Distance: 24.7 km

Maximum Altitude (Larkya La Pass): 5160 m above sea level

Maximum Altitude( Bimthang): 3720 m above sea level

Today’s trek is the longest one in our Manaslu Base Camp Trek Itinerary. This day you will be crossing the highest point of this trek. You will be heading towards Bimthang via Larkya La Pass.

This day’s trek is quite challenging and adventurous as well. You will be encountering several rustic villages, beautiful peaks and valleys, viewing glacier lakes, and walking through lush forests.

After a hearty breakfast, you begin your trek by making a gentle climb in the trails. Walking for about a few hours, you reach a valley located on the north side of Larkya Glacier. This place gives the astounding view of Cho Danda and Larkya peak.

From there, you walk across several moraines of Glacier and climb uphill. The trails get steeper in the final section of the pass. Finally, you reach Larkya La pass.

You get the stunning view of Himlung Himal, Manaslu, Annapurna II and many more from this pass. Viewing these scenarios, you make a descent in the trails and cross several forests before arriving at Bimthang.

You stay here for the night.

Day 12: Trek to Tilije

Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours

Trek Distance: 16 km

Maximum Altitude: 2300 m above sea level

After having a delicious breakfast, you head towards Tilije from Bimthang this day. Heading out to a ridge nearby, you can see the view of Lamjung Himal, Manaslu, Cheo himal from there.

You descend in the trails, you walk past a pasture land and cross the bridge over Dudh Khola River. Then walk a bit further and enter the lush forest of rhododendron.

Following the jungle trails, you pass a narrow valley till you arrive at Karche. This is the high cultivated land of this region. From there, you pass several fields before climbing a steep ridge.

The trails after the ridge are huge sweeping arcs till the river bank. Walking a bit further you reach the beautiful Gurung village, Gho. Some choose to stay here for the night.

But you continue walking till Tilije, where you stay the night.

Day 13: Trek to Tal

Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours

Trek Distance: 11.3 km

Maximum Altitude: 1700 m above sea level

Today you head towards Tal from Tilije. After having your breakfast, you descend the trails and climb a small ridge. Then crossing a bridge over the Dudh Khola River, you again make an ascend in the trails.

Then passing beautiful mani walls and stupas, you reach Thonje. This place has a police checkpoint, finishing the formalities you move ahead in the trials till Dharapani.

From this point onwards, you have exited the Manaslu Conservation area and entered Annapurna Conservation Area. Descending in the trails, you cross a suspension bridge over the Marshyangdi Khola.

Then walking past mani walls and prayer flags, you reach Tal. This beautiful village lies on the foot of a large waterfall. You stay here for tonight.

Day 14: Trek to Syange

Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hours

Trek Distance: 12.9 km

Maximum Altitude: 1080 m above sea level

Today is your last day in this region. You will be trekking to Syange from Tal this day. Following the steep trails down to Chyamje, you cross over the beautiful Marshyangdi Khola.

The valley slowly opens giving you the view of terrace fields and peaks in distance. Viewing them you descend and enter the picturesque forest of pines and rhododendron.

Walking for a few hours, you reach Syange and stay here for the night.

Day 15: Drive to Kathmandu

Drive Duration: 8 to 9 hours

Maximum Altitude: 1400 m above sea level

Today you will be driving back to Kathmandu via Tourist bus. Waking up early, you have your breakfast then catch your bus. You will be driving along the banks of Marshyangdi river and passing several villages. Viewing beautiful scenarios and enjoying them. After a full day’s journey in the bus, you reach Kathmandu.

Day 16: Final Departure

You have your breakfast, and wait for the representatives to pick you from the hotel. They will pick you according to your departure time and drop you off at the airport.
