The Makalu Base Camp Trek is one of the most remote and majestic treks in Nepal. The route travels up an astonishing, isolated valley to Makalu, the worlds fifth highest peak that soars to 8463 m (27,765 ft). Along the way we travel through lush hills, dense forests and pristine meadows. This diverse range of landscapes and cultures of the region is much less visited by tourists than other destinations in Nepal and full of adventure and surprises as you climb to the foot of the Himalaya. The sense of peace and serenity in this valley, far away from the worlds cares might give you the feeling that you are the first explorer ever to reach here!
The Makalu-Barun National Park, 2,330 km, is in eastern Nepal and borders the Sagarmatha National park to the east and Tibet to the north. The astonishing natural scenery and ecological variety of this protected area is home to the rich culture of Nepal and a diverse range of flora and fauna, including rare wildlife and nearly 25 species of rhododendron, Nepals national flower.
The highlights of this trek, along with glorious, untouched mountain landscape, are the village scenery and having a chance to witness the way of life of the people living in this charming and arid land. We then climb into unpopulated areas, with alpine meadows and yak pastures that will truly get you away from it all.Situated in a remote region far from the bustling cities, the trek begins with a scenic flight to the east of Nepal. From the airport at Tumlingtar, we begin a journey northward up the Arun River valley through the lush foothills. Because this is a remote and restricted area requiring special permits. Weunlikely, will meet many other trekkers in this region and often have the pristine trails to ourselves.
The Makalu Base Camp Trek is a camping tour as facilities in the region after a certain point are not capable of supporting a teahouse or lodge to lodge trek. We will have a crew of porters to carry all supplies, including a dining tent, tables, chairs, bathroom tent and personal, comfortable sleeping tent. Our cook will provide quality meals and the evening around the camp will be a cozy time recollecting the wonders of the days journey and spectacular surroundings over a good meal and warm drink.
