The Manaslu circuit trekking trail is situated in the bordering part of western Nepal. It is spread up to the land connected with the Tibetan plateau in the northern high altitude. The Manaslu trekking trails were opened in 1991 by the Nepal government. It is a popular trail to explore the Himalayan views of Manaslu, Ganesh, and Annapurna mountain range, astonishing landscape, ethnic lifestyles in the middle hill region, their traditions, rituals, customs, and festivals. Due to its diversities, this trekking is regarded as an alternative to the world-renowned Annapurna circuit trekking.

Trekking in the Manaslu circuit heads through the Manaslu Conservation Area. It is full of natural and cultural variety. Larke La pass (5160m) is the highest Himalayan pass of this trek. Mt. Manaslu (8163m) is the 8th highest mountain in the world. The central attractions in this area are the Mt. Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Himal Chuli, Peak 29, Mahendra Lake and glacier. The Milarepas cave in the west of Sama gaon and Samdo gaon are other attractions of this trekking. The trek follows the historical salt trade route with Tibet along the Budi Gandaki River.

The local people on the trail are Newar, Gurung, Magar and other Tibetan origin groups. The varieties in biodiversities are terraced fields, rhododendron and pine forests. The Manaslu region is a shelter of 110 species of birds including Golden Eagle, Himalayan Griffon, Impeyan, Blood, Kalij, Eurasian Griffon and Koklas Pheasants, Himalayan and Tibetan Snow Cocks and the Crimson Horned Pheasant. Rhododendron and Himalayan blue pine are key flora species in this region.

Manaslu circuit trekking begins from Arughat of the Gorkha district. After several ascending and descending throughout the Budi Gandaki River, it reaches Sama and Samdo gaon, crosses the Larke pass and ultimately follows the main trail of the Annapurna round trekking at Lumjung. There were no facilities at the beginning of the route, but now there are several lodges. Spring and Autumn are the best seasons of the Manaslu region trek.
