Gokyo Lakes Trekking

You'll embark on a 30-minute flight to Lukla, where your mountain guide awaits. Following a warm introduction and a delicious lunch in Lukla, you'll commence a scenic walk to Phakding. En route, you'll pass by mesmerizing mani walls, spin prayer wheels, and engage with the local community. The journey culminates in Phakding, offering a breathtaking panorama of Konge Ri.

As you trek towards Namche, you'll come across numerous locals and yaks along the path. Tracing the course of the Dudhkoshi River, journeying through pine forests, and passing several mani walls, you'll officially register your permits at Monjo before continuing towards Namche. The trail leads through Jorsale, gradually ascending to the vibrant Namche Bazaar. It's here, at Namche, that you'll be treated to your initial glimpse of the majestic Mt. Everest.

Our journey along the Everest Trail takes a pause today as we relish a leisurely morning at our guest house, savoring a delightful breakfast. The day unfolds with an exploration of the charming Namche Bazaar. Known as a bustling trade center, Namche hosts a weekly market on Saturdays, providing an opportunity to procure goods at favorable prices. For an additional adventure, we have the option to embark on a hike to the Everest View Hotel, a vantage point that promises breathtaking panoramas of the Khumbu region's majestic mountains.

Our trek leads us to Dole, marking a departure from the familiar path of the Everest Trail. The journey to Dole presents a varied terrain with its undulating landscape. Approximately two hours into the trek, we'll reach Mong La Pass (3957m | 12982ft.), a vantage point offering stunning views of Mt. Ama Dablam (6812m | 22349ft.) and Mt. Khumbi La (5761m | 18901ft.). Descending through pine and rhododendron forests, our trail brings us to Phortse Tenga, and from there, we continue our route towards Dole.

Passing by the summer camps of yak herders, we'll witness the imposing presence of Kantega, Thamserku, and Cho Oyu in the backdrop. The trail ascends alongside the Dudh Koshi River, guiding us up a hill until we reach the quaint settlement of Macchermo. Amidst the teahouses and local homes, Macchermo also hosts a health post staffed with medical personnel, providing essential services to both the villagers and trekkers alike.

Our journey proceeds along a steep ascent, leading us to a crest that unveils breathtaking panoramas of Cho Oyu, Kantega, and Thamserku. Advancing through Pangka, we continue along a well-trodden pathway until we arrive at the moraine of Nepal's longest glacier, the Nzogumpa Glacier. Our trek brings us to the access point of the first Gokyo Lake, the smallest among the five major Gokyo lakes. A short walk from here leads us to the Gokyo village, nestled near the third Gokyo lake, making it one of the highest settlements in Nepal.

Embarking on a remarkable day, we'll hike to one of the premier viewpoints in the Khumbu region, boasting a 360-degree panorama of the Himalayas, encompassing the awe-inspiring Mt. Everest and the majestic Tibetan peaks. After relishing the breathtaking vistas from Gokyo Ri, we'll make our way back to the guest house. Following this, we'll continue along the trail towards our designated destination for the day, Thangnak.

Ascending through challenging terrain and glacial moraines, we'll conquer the formidable Cho La Pass at an elevation of 5368m (17611ft). The ascent takes a few hours, rewarding us with awe-inspiring vistas of the surrounding mountain ranges from the pinnacle of Cho La Pass. As we begin the descent, the trail becomes slippery, adding an extra layer of adventure to the trek. The journey continues through spectacular landscapes, and after several hours of trekking, we'll reach the destination for the day, Dzongla.

Leaving Dzongla in our wake, we embark on a descent along the moraine, followed by a trek through the Khumbu Glacier. Along the way, poignant remembrance statues of climbers who lost their lives in this region serve as solemn reminders of the challenges these peaks pose. Tracing the course of Imja Khola, we continue our journey until, after nearly four hours of trekking, we reach Lobuche. Here, we seamlessly rejoin the familiar path of the Everest Trail.

The journey towards our ultimate destination, Everest Base Camp, commences from Lobuche, with a gradual ascent leading us to Gorak Shep. Upon reaching Gorak Shep, we'll leave our backpacks behind and make our way to the much-anticipated Everest Base Camp. The moment of reaching Everest Base Camp is profoundly satisfying, with impressive views and a glimpse of the sprawling Khumbu Glacier. After soaking in the experience, we'll retraverse our steps back to Gorak Shep, where we can reflect on the awe-inspiring adventure.

Kala Patthar stands as the premier and highest viewpoint in the Khumbu Region, providing unparalleled vistas of the Himalayan range. We embark on a trek to Kala Patthar, specifically timed for sunrise, ensuring a breathtaking spectacle. Following this awe-inspiring experience, we'll retrace our steps and descend along the Everest trail, making our way to the picturesque village of Pheriche.

Embarking on our descent from the mountainous terrain, we gradually make our way downhill towards Namche Bazaar. Along the journey, there's the opportunity to encounter Himalayan yaks, mountain goats, musk deer, and more. En route to Namche, we pass through the Sherpa settlements of Tengboche and Pangboche, adding cultural richness to our trek before finally reaching the vibrant hub of Namche Bazaar.

On our final day in the mountains and alongside our mountain guide, we traverse the Hillary Bridge, navigating through various villages and streams along the Dudhkoshi River. The path leads us back to Lukla, marking the culmination of our trek. As a gesture of appreciation, it's customary to express gratitude to our guides and porters by offering tips before departing from Lukla. This signifies the end of our memorable mountain adventure.

Commencing the day, you'll catch an early flight to Kathmandu. Upon arrival at the airport, a designated transport will be ready to take you to your hotel. As a parting gesture, the NNT team extends an invitation to a farewell dinner scheduled for 6:00 pm.
